Emotional Intelligence Training

Overview

Magny Leadership’s Emotional Intelligence Training Course for Law Enforcement Agencies is designed to help law enforcement agencies reduce civil liability related to excessive use of force, increase morale and job satisfaction, increase retention and recruiting, and improve communication with the community. The course provides officers with the tools and strategies to practice self-awareness and self-regulation, understand and manage their emotions and the emotions of others, learn to handle stress and criticism, and build and maintain meaningful relationships. 

The Course

The course begins with an overview of the concept of emotional intelligence. Participants are taught the four main components of emotional intelligence and how they relate to the job of law enforcement. Participants then learn to identify and manage their emotional triggers, develop active listening and communication skills, and identify and manage emotional responses in themselves and others. They also learn to practice self-awareness and self-regulation, develop emotional intelligence strategies for responding to difficult people and situations, and build and maintain meaningful relationships with their community members. 

The course also covers how to recognize and respond to the unique needs of specific populations, such as the mentally ill, victims of crime, and the homeless. Additionally, the course introduces de-escalation techniques, conflict resolution strategies, and restorative justice. Through the use of interactive activities and role-playing, participants are able to develop and practice the skills they have learned.
